VoIP by KLiP - FAQ's

1. What does VoIP stand for?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol.

2. What is VoIP?
Voice over IP (VoIP) is the technology that KLiP Communications uses to carry phone calls. VoIP provides voice telephony services using Internet Protocol (IP). This allows you to make telephone calls using KLiP's broadband network. VoIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into digital packets that travel over the broadband network and then converts these packets back to a voice signal at the other end of the call.

3. Why is KLiP offering phone service?
KLiP is no longer just a cable company. With the launch of VoIP services we now offer the full "triple play" that includes TV, Internet and Voice, bringing the best services available for our customers at very competitive prices.

4. What are the choices and prices?
A variety of choices and bundled packages are available. Please call 1-800-388-6577 or visit www.klip.com for a complete listing of services in your area.

5. What equipment is needed in my home?
Our installers will come to your home and install an EMTA (enhanced multi-media terminal adapter) device. This modem delivers the cable signal needed for voice service and Internet service. It also provides battery backup that keeps your service running if the power goes out for short periods of time (usually up to 8 hours).

6. Will my existing phones work with the VoIP service? Yes.

7. Can I use the existing phone jacks throughout my house? Yes.

8. Do I need another phone company to provide other services?
No. KLiP offers both local and long distance services through our VoIP system.

9. Will I be able to call other people who use different phone services?
Yes, exactly the same way you do today.

10. Will my phone number change?
No. We offer full number portability. However, if you would like a different number we can provide one.

11. Can I make a phone call, watch TV and surf the Internet at the same time?
Yes. Because of the power of broadband technology you can use all of your services from KLiP at the same time.

12. Can I make a call to 911?
Yes. Should you ever need to call for emergency services just dial 911 and your call will be routed to the nearest public safety operator and the proper emergency services will be dispatched. In areas where Enhanced 911 services are available your location ID will be electronically routed to the 911 Operator. However you should be aware of the differences in VoIP phone service and that of traditional phone service. In the event of an extended power outage, usually more that 8 hours, you may not have phone service. If your cable connection is lost for any reason you may not have phone service. At present our VoIP service does not support LIFEline Services. Visit www.klip.com and click on the 911 information for additional details.

13. What happens if my cable service goes out?
If your cable service goes out you may not have phone service.

14. What happens if I loose power to my house for an extended period of time?
You may not have phone service if power is out over eight hours. The battery backup that comes with the EMTA device is good for up to 8 hours.

15. Will my home security system work with VoIP?
We have tested our service with several companies and have found no problems, however we recommend you contact your home security provider prior to the installation of VoIP services.
